I used Cyd to delete X - it worked great

Howdy,

A while back I learned of Cyd, a new tool anyone can use to delete X. I just used Cyd to delete everything I had on an old X account that had a few tweets. Cyd was simple to use, and it worked great.

"But why can't I just delete X myself" you ask?

Cyd's developer Micah Lee explains it here:

Want to quit X in 2025? Here’s how to do it the right way with Cyd
Here are simple step-by-step instructions on using Cyd to close down your X account while keeping your username and telling your followers where they can find you.

Cyd doesn't use the API. Cyd works by scrolling through X's website and clicking buttons on your behalf. Everything that Cyd does, you could do yourself with nothing more than a web browser and an infinite amount of time. X can't cut off API access to stop you from controlling your data with Cyd.

Cyd can delete your tweets, except for what you want to keep. For example, you can tell Cyd to delete tweets older than 30 days unless they got at least 100 likes or retweets... Or, you can just delete everything. The choice is yours.

Cyd helps you abandon X while keeping your username. If you're one of the millions of people fleeing X, it's better to delete all of your tweets (and unfollow everyone, which Cyd can do for you) but keep your account activated than to delete your account. This way, other people can't take over your username and impersonate you, and you can leave your account with a message telling your followers where to find you.

Cyd can delete your likes and direct messages. Likes and DMs are private on X, but that data is still accessible to anyone who hacks your account, and to X itself.

Cyd saves a local backup of your data. Before deleting your data, Cyd can build a local, browsable database of your X data, complete with HTML snapshots of your tweets.

Cyd runs directly on your computer, not on our servers. We don’t have access to your X account, or to any of the data in it.

Micah, thanks so much for making this great tool.

tty next time,
